This sort of thing used to be simple but..

Anyway. I'm very likely to buy a new Cotic Soul to build up as my bling(ish) midlife-crisis bike. It will have a Chris King headset. It just will. I've transferred these from frame to frame and they're just great and me-proof.

All my other bikes were simple - 1-1/8 no nonsense*. But the new Soul has a tapered head tube. I'll be using a fork with a standard 1-1/8 steerer, so the question is...

What King headset do I need for this.

Cheers

*Except my first road bike that was 1" steerer.

Just get the Hope pre-installed instead, easier on the pocket and less hassle!

I've a ck on my soul, had it on my previous soul as well, 7 years all in, still smoother than a smooth thing. Fitted a hope headset to my heckler in July 2011, and the bearings are rough as a rough thing. Just my tuppenceworth. Both cost the same btw.

Probably needs a mail to Cy to check.

34mm to 44mm quoted on the Cotic site doesn't make sense against the CK pages. 34mm to 49mm seems to look the same as the pics on the Cotic website but definitely worth checking with Cotic.

You need a standard 1 1/8th upper cup and tapered 1.5 lower cup with 1.5 to 1 1/8 Devo baseplate

Ahh hang on, i could be wrong regarding the bottom cup size - best call Cy or Paul before taking the advice of someone who's drunk 2 glasses of Rioja and 2 stiff G&T's

You're out of luck, the Soul has a 44mm bore in the bottom of the headtube, looking at the CK website, they don't produce cups for 44mm frames.

On my Mk3 Soul I've got a Hope pick & mix headset (1 upper, H lower) with the hope 1 1/8 to 1 1/2 adaptor. Does the job fine !

Crhis King do make a headset to fit. No worries!

You need a traditional 1 1/8" top cup and an Inset 7 external bottom cup. If you have 1 1/8" steerer forks you need a Devolution crown race. Taper forks fit fine.
