I'm a bit baffled by this...

I just built up a new bike and to make things simple i decided to buy the same brakes for the new (small) bike as i have on the old (big) bike. they're Hayes Nines for info. so when i was shopping i found an 8" kit and thought what i'd do would be to swap the 7" discs from the big bike to the small bike and put the new 8" discs on the big bike.

with International Standards and all that it should, in my mind, work. but it doesn't. the mounts for the 7" brakes are wider than the mounts for the 8" brakes by a few mm and therefore do not work on the forks on the small bike. i can get the 8" brakes to work on the big big but i have to chuck a load of spacers on.

has anyone else come across this? or anyone got any ideas to get around it??

i can't even get my head around why they look different...

the 7" mount looks like this

and the 8" like this

yeah - I think some forks the IS mount is further away...I used a couple of bolts as spacers until I could buy the thicker adapter...

which way round are you as I have one of the adapters for sale - the thinner of the two...
