hi all,
just booked a break in Hay on Wye with wife and kids, gonna take the bike for a morning jaunt.
As i will only most likely have a day, is there any recommendations on a ride? I may do the Gap as it is a kind of bucket list ride but something good from the front door could be better.
Any thoughts?

If you have a full day then the black mountains killer loop is closer than the Gap and very worthwhile xc riding, more techy than the gap and longer
This link looks about right but obviously in your case start and finish at the North end and don't bother descending to Crickhowell at the other

Most other paths over the black mountains summits are sadly designated as footpaths and in any case go through miles of bogs, except the Offas Dyke which is paved, but the three descents on BMKL are much better in any case.
