Do you have days when it just seems to go from bad to worse on the trail! just had a total mare on my local, which require a bit of commitment, probs a tad rusty, but nearly lost it on a couple of drops, nearly having an interface with a stump, all over the place, decided to call it a day.
It seems if you take your eye off the ball just for a couple of weeks you can loose that edge quite quickly, making excuses like it is quite damp and greasy, but i don't normaly have off days like this. What do you reckon mtfu and hit it next time.
My problem seems to be hitting stuff, i was cruising a while back and even trying to push harder, in poor conditions, having been slack on the really tech stuff of late.
I will be back and crush soon.
Happens to everyone, don't let it get you down. Tell yourself you will ride well, and you probably will.
Been having a bad few weeks, all tense and twitchy. My level of kung fu seems to be down to white belt at the moment. "Today I did not unleash the fury"
Just recognise when you are and slow down and chill out.
It happens to us all - sometimes for no obvious reason
loving the sentiment, i need some humility, my problem is that i am to much a perfectionist, some days the force will not be as strong.
Definitely get those days. When they happen I pretty much turn round and head back home. Trying to ride through it usually ends up in me getting madder and madder, trying to ride too fast and stacking in. Better to take a step back and save it for another day.
Only other thing I sometimes try is to ride a much easier, fun bit of trail before heading home and hope something clicks.
It's called The Flow™some days the force will not be as strong
Yes, I get an off day now and then, when whatever I do I'm a split second off, or slightly out of place all the time. At other times, on exactly the same trail, I can be bang on and ride as if on autopilot. It's impossible to predict: I can be tired and still ride perfectly, or raring to go and getting it all wrong.
I remember i once had an on day, rode through it pretty quickly and have not had one since
had one last week on a familiar 5mile loop...ugh, it was terrible
I'm far more of an endurance rider than a technique rider and am never great technically - my problem is often going for the brakes when speed should really be my friend. Riding a couple of days ago I had one of those rides where I got it wrong early on, lost confidence so was more inclined to go for the brake, which meant I got it wrong more, which meant I lost confidence, which meant I went for the brake more... you get the picture.
Must send myself off on some sort of course or bite the bullet, admit they are better than me even though I introduced them to the sport and ask friends how they do it!
For me, once a ride gets headed that way, the whole day seems to continue that way, no matter how hard I concentrate. It is a feeling of being out of rhythm with the bike and trail.
+1 busydog
Happened to me on Saturday.
For some reason I kept looking down , not ahead.
Had to stop and have a word with meself.
Glad it's not just me.
Some days I feel on it, other days not [shrugs]. It's all cycling.
Had a shyzzer day on sunday, planned on a 50 mile tour of mendip on the Nicolai, heart rate wouldn't go up, felt like I was riding a DH bike uphill, arrived back home after 32 miles.
Hopefully tomorrow night will be better
Yup, absolutely, and it only gets worse if you leave it for longer. When I'm having a stinker, actually telling myself to look down the trail (not at the front wheel), go with it, etc etc, does help to a point, but it doesn't change it to a good day.
As TJ says, sometimes you just have to chill out and go with it. Accept that you'll come off, and try to make sure you don't hurt yourself and/or get really pissed off with it all
If its any consolation I nearly went over the bars coming through my front gate after a trip to the post office. Was only may saddle resting on the gatepost that stopped me going over. In my on drive FFS! 😳
In my defence I was fully rigid and the kerb and front step are exactly a wheelbase apart.
Yep I was riding a bit rubbish today though I did manage to hit a drop I've never had the balls to try before 🙂 New bike inspires confidence.

That's just common sense getting in the way!
"Off the brakes, off the brakes" is the mantra for a section on my local ride, still haven't done it without a few little drags though.
Off days- so far with 100% reliability- lead to bad crashes.
Pain is pretend, shock is real but, adrenalin makes us quickly feel... and stuff. So I forget I was ever having a bad run and get on much better with gravity.
Nothing is better than riding, so having a shitter is better than nowt.
