The end of a love affair or the beginning of a bright new future? I was out in the hills of Marin County the other day & cruised past the top of Repack & couldnt help wonder what some of his compatriots from back in the day of "peace & love & trying to get one over the man" would think of this move..Personally I understand why he's done it, I never quite got Gary Fisher or his bikes but I was always pleased that this kind of crazy looking dude was around doing his thing & being a success - but is this a step too far?

This has been posted already but...

One could argue he sold out when he sold GF to Trek in the first place.

One could argue that despite what the whole company is saying, this might not have even been Gary Fisher's choice - they already owned him in that respect.

Personally I think it makes sense and I'd be more likely to buy a Fisher now as I think the Trek design team has done a much nicer job visually.

We all sell out in one way or another, so we shouldn't be too hard on poor Gary.

Hooker With A Penis by Tool

I met a boy wearing Vans, 501, and a
New dope Beastie t, nipple ring,
New tattoos that claimed that he
Was OTG,
From '92,
The first EP.
And in between
Sips of Coke
He told me that
He thought
We were sellin' out,
Layin' down,
Suckin' up
To the man.
Well now I've got some
Great advice for you, little buddy.
Before you point the finger
You should know that
I'm the man,
I'm the man,
And you're the man, and
He's the man as well so you can
Point that ****in' finger up your ass.
All you know about me is what I've sold you,
Dumb ****
I sold out long before you ever heard my name.
I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip shit, man,
you bought one.
Well, I've got some
Great advice for you, little buddy.
Before you point your finger
You should know that
I'm the man,
If I'm the ****in' man
Then you're the ****in' man as well
So you can
Point that ****in' finger up your ass.
All you know about me is what I've sold you,
Dumb ****
I sold out long before you ever heard my name.
I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip shit, man,
you bought one.
All you read and
Wear or see and
Hear on TV
Is a product
Begging for your
Fatass dirty
Dollar
So...Shut up and
Buy Buy Buy
my new record
Buy Buy Buy
Send more money
**** you, buddy
**** you, buddy
**** you, buddy
**** you, buddy!

He sold the brand to Trek in the 90's, part of the deal being that he stayed on as a figurehead/designer/tester/employee etc.

That is to say that he has had no say so on the Gary Fisher brand as a separate entity for over a decade! I'm amazed Trek haven't done this years ago to be fair, as though I quite like the Gary Fisher brand, it doesn't make commercial sense for Trek to manage it as a separate brand, with bikes competing against its own.

MUCH cheaper to amalgamate it as a range of bikes within the Trek brand, and use the "Gary Fisher" stamp on the more niche/adventurous bikes that they want to mess about with (as Gary Fisher was always famous for to be fair) without harming the very solid Trek brand at all.
