weight not important - going out to les arcs for a week on a hardtail 29er.

hardy tires - anyone do dual ply 29er tires ? thinking something beefy about 2.4 with a fairly meaty tread - cant see the 2.4 racing ralphs lasting long - seen thicker condoms !

wtb stouts are fair chunky massive things. Not dual ply, but more rubber than a knocking shop.

The 2.35 nobby nic snakeskin have quite a thick sidewalls.

WTB dissent 2.5s are designed as more of a dh tyre though.

Maxxis do the Ardent in a 29x2.4" with the EXO casing.

It's not cheap mind (about £40 per tyre), but apparently the EXO casing adds a lot more puncture protection and stability to the tyre, enabling it to be run at lower pressures... Or so the marketing guff says.

EDIT: Just found the following post on MTBR by a Maxxis employe...

'size is correct, except that the following tires always had Exo-Protection (we just didn't advertise it):
-ADvantage 26x2.4
-Ardent 26x2.4 single ply
-Ardent 29x2.4

Which means by the looks of things, ALL 29x2.4" Maxxis Ardents have the EXO casing... Sounds like the ticket to me!

The EXO casing isn't as tough as they try to make out. 😉

Bontrager FR3s are quite tough and more readily available. They mount up tubeless really easily too
