[#2443890]

Hi,

I have up to £800 to spend on a complete bike (Cycle to Work) - not gone for the full £1000.

I want to spend about £600 really and then £300 worth of clothes etc.

What is the best thing around at the momemt. Some of the lads I ride with have the On-One 456 and these look really nice, but as a complete bike they are over budget.

Is there anything similar?

Singlespeed is an option, for possible conversion next winter once I have got used to a hardtail. Currently riding a 2004 Enduro, which I will also be keeping, so this will be a second bike.

Any advice on the bikes available greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

£600 + £300 != £800

You're easily persuaded.

Not going to get much brand new if going for a frame like a Cotic Soul....well, you might get wheels and a seat post as well 😉

I'd love a Cotic Soul, but you can't get complete bikes from what I have seen. Could be a plan and then try and find some second hand forks and everything else and spend some time building it up...

This looks pretty good too, but can you put longer forks on?

At £600, if you've got Halfords as an option, check out the Carrera Fury... Very good bike, it won a £750 bikes test last year despite being a £550 bike. Lighter than most 100mm bikes at this price, but more capable too with the longer fork and slightly calmer geometry.

A Soul is lovely but even if you could get a full build, not for £600!

I could go up to £900, and just remembered I've got some old Hope XC hubbed wheels. Could see if I could get a Soul with some Forks and other bits, although I don't fancy the Maguras.

I'll take a look at the Carrea now.
