[#4855954]

I have an SLX 10sp clutch mech and SLX M670 shifters my problem is that after an hour of so of riding I find it hard to shift due to the power I need to put into the lever. I broke my thumb years ago and dont have allot of strength in it. Is it the same for others with this setup? Have considered switching to SRAM gripshift but that would require a new rear mech as well so not too keen.
I dont remember my old SRAM x9 9sp setup being this difficult to shift.

The clutch in the mech puts more tension on the cable, thus limiting movement in the mech.

This in turn, sadly makes them harder to shift, therefore im sticking with a standard one.

Shame really, as it's a great idea.

There was an article on PinkBike I think that had instructions on how to adjust the clutch to make it tighter/slacker easier/harder to move or whatever, might be worth searching for it and trying to adjust.

EDIT: http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Tech-Tuesday-Inside-Shimanos-Shadow-Plus-Mech-and-How-To-Adjust-.html
Shows XTR but imagine the tech is just the same inside.

The shimano system does feel heavy, sram type 2 on the other hand is nice and light

Strange how I asked if anybody else thought they made it feel like shagged cables a week ago, and was told I was the only one ๐Ÿ˜•

Mine (Zee) feels fine with an XT shifter, but felt like a huge pile of shite with an SLX shifter (exactly like shagged cables, all rough and sticky). I assume it's because of something inside the shifter as the difference feels too great for it to be a placebo (paid the same for each shifter too ๐Ÿ˜‰ ).

The clutch in the mech puts more tension on the cable, thus limiting movement in the mech.

It does, but the difference is tiny- my SLX/XT setup was still lighter shifting than my normal X9/X9, except in the very lowest gears. (the Saint/XT is lighter but still positive)

Nice and easy to test, just do a ride with the clutch off. But I suspect setup or cables personally- any really sharp bends? Were the cables new with the controls?

All on brand new bikes in my case, various makes and models. Switch off the clutch and it feels normal, switch it on and it feels like a bag of sh**e.Maybe i'm too mechanically sympathetic.

Hmm, I can barely feel the difference between the two with mine- enough to tell it's off if I think about it but not when JRA.

The clutch is adjustable (at least in some models), is it possible yours is turned up really high? (it's possible mine is really low! But it does the job so doesn't need to be higher)

Agree - the clutch makes shifting really heavy

I'm running 2012 shifters on a 2013 mech, but i've heard that the correct shifters are much easier with the clutch mech

I have an xtr clutch mech which is not at all heavy to shift. Its heavier than my none clutch xtr but that's ridiculously light shifting.

Traditional XT (ie pre-shadow) and an Avid Rollamajig have the lightest shifting action I ever had if that helps at all.

Rollamajigs do turn up occasionally ont'web.

Try these. http://www.fantic26.de/MOD-IV-XT-XTR-old-Sram-Gripshift-10-Speed-Deore-SLX-bis-2010-al_1

I have been using them for around 12 months without issue.
