looking to spend about 1200 on a hard tail, any advice on the best? was thinking marin rocky ridge for beef or scott scale 40 for weight

What kind of bike do you want. Racey hardtail or burley?

I think you need to decide what you want it for before we can offer any advice - there's a world of difference between the two you've mentioned!!!

getting it through the cycle to work scheme so limited to some shops that operate it in bournemouth, want something that can take a good decent but isn't too heavy for the uphills, also looked at the orange p7 but my mate has one and says it can be a little hard on a long ride
