Son has asked for a hard drive for Christmas. I haven't got a Scooby. Looking on Amazon there seems to be hundreds. He does a lot of recording on Garage Band and his recordings are really important to him so it needs to be reliable and unlikely to go wrong. Budget about £100. Thanks in advance.

Assuming hes on a laptop and wants an external drive - this is a pretty decent deal. He'll want an SSD not a HDD.

SSD over HDD for reliability all day. And you're not going to find 2TB of SSD storage for < £100
Get a 2tb NAS class HDD and a subscription to a cloud service for actually backing them up?
You need to know if he means internal or external. If internal there are a few different standards, and if a laptop then size can be an issue - some laptops will only take certain thicknesses for exampledue to space constraints.
If external then it is a bit easier - what laptop etc does he have (so you can get the best connection). SSD is likley to be better than older techs, but more expensive for a given size. If it is just for backup then SSD less of an issue, and there are loads of large external drives on the likes of amazon - get one with good reviews in budget from a well known brand and you should be fine

Whether you decide to use RAID, or backup somewhere else, or just hope for the best and learn the hard way is up to you.
If it's not important enough to back up, it's not important.
