I currently have a pair of the Planet X wall hangers but they are a bit of a pain to use with mountain bike tyres.

Is there a better option for fatter types (2.35ish")? Any make-it-yourself ideas?

I am using those same hangers for all my and my brothers bikes. 1 x 2.8, 3 x 2.6 and a Maxxis 2.5 WT. No issues at all?

Matt Jones here with a DIY option, if you can handle the enthusiasm

Also find that design a complete pain, so I've just put up a few of these for our bikes, really impressed with them

The bikes don't hang - the back wheel is on the floor, but they are so simple to use

We have two hanging from Topeak Turnup Bike Holders and a couple on cycloc Heros ( they look pretty ).

The Trunups are pretty good as you can swing them flatter to the wall etc. Heros look good.

You need appropriate wall fittings for both!!!

I just use cheap, plastic coated, hooks from B&Q. Fine for tyres up to 2.5" or so.

Welshfarmer - they work but my son struggles to get his bike down without help (the tyre grips the back plate). Was looking for an easier hook / unhook.

I've got those. They work well on the kids' MTBs but they can't quite lift the bikes up enough, although it's easy for me. I am planning to trim some off the hook to make it easier - I don't think it will affect the function but should make it easier to get in and out.

Quite like the clug, but they can be fragile - little tabs break and the inner piece starts to detach from the frame and comes away with your wheel

Steadyracks are great but yikes they're not cheap. Happy with mine though.

I went for the MTB version as covers up to 2.8": https://www.steadyrack.com/product/mountain-bike-rack/

Could you bend the hook so it has less of a curve? That or cut a few mm off the end.

Yep me too. They also do some even bigger if thats whats required. I use these to hang all mine from the rafters in the garage.

Decathlon hooks are cheap and and work with big tyres.

Your bike shop should be able to order the bigger, heavy duty hooks, which hold larger tires and are easier to get wheels on and off.

As above, we gave up on everything we had tried and reverted to the Decathlon ones years ago. We have 8 on the back wall of the garage, they are strong and will take a 3" tyre. Sturdy enough to take e bikes

Use these for all my bikes

Similar to what you have, but without the tyre grips on the back

I have a couple of the Decathlon ones but I find they are a bit of a wrestle to get fat tyres in. My bikes are still hung on the B&Q hooks which I find easier to use. The Decathlon hooks now have spare wheels and tyres attached.
I did try hanging bike by the seat but gave up as I was worried about the effect on the droppers
