[Closed] handlebar diameters (on kids bikes)

The time is approaching where junior_bandito #1's Ridgeback Scoot needs to be reclaimed from the depths of the loft for junior_bandito #2

Needs a bit more than a dust down though. At some point, it got run over by my father-in-law (the Scoot, not either of the boys) and is sporting a bent handlebar. Nay bother, I'll cut down one of my old bars and use that. Except my old bars are obviously 25.4mm diameter, the Scoot appears to be 24.8mm according to my calipers.
I guess they could be on the small size of roadie-standard 25.0mm?

any reason not to pry the quill stem open and squeeze my bars in?. Or am i best off getting proper replacements?
