Try as I might, it won't budge and I don't want to risk damage. It's off a new Whyte 909 so factory fitted. Are they tight and need some muscle or is there a technique or tool that helps?

They are sometimes quite tight, but can stick on if they've not been properly prepped when installing.

Just make sure you've got the tool fully engaged in the splines and give it a bit of heft, as long as the tool doesn't slip, it should come with a big enough lever.

Have you removed the end cap first. We have to do that with all our Hope XD drivers so that tbe tool will fully engage.

Once your sure its fully engaged then a big lever will usually crack it

Small pliers. Park tool cassette removal tool and a big adjustable spanner have always worked for us. When you put it back on make sure the free hub had been greased for next time

When I first went over to XD driver someone advised me to slather the threads with loads of grease which I did and have never had an issue removing. If I were to buy a bike with one the first thing I'd to is remove the cassette and make sure it is well greased. It's a fine thread with alot of surface area contact so doesn't take much to cause it to seize.

You might want to try shock loading the spanner. Make sure the spanner is well secured so it doesn't slip (I prefer the tools that use a half inch drive socket wrench compared to an open ended spanner) and sort of pump it with your body weight for a split second each time. The peak torque is higher but only applied for a split second so can sometimes break the friction or corrosion that might be seizing it.

My Icetoolz remover, will work with the end caps in place and has a 1/2" or spanner flat option. ย My Park Tool was useless in this regard.
