There's been a bit of a thing for these recently - they're a bit silly, it's not a test of how fact a cyclist you are or how revolutionary your bike design, it's a test of how powerful a pace car you can get.

Got to 65ish at Battle Mountain. Planning for next year I think. The film about it just reached it's Kickstarter target.

Valves/logos not lined up, therefore he will die in a huge fireball from this attempt

you'd give it go though? I know I would.
you need big kahoonas to ride a bike at 100mph.

Should be better tv than the usual fare.

A whole prog filled with "chief", "boss", "nah then". He's going to end up fronting whatever replaces Top Gear (they're gonna die one day!)

Interview with him in this weeks MCN - using a bloody huuuuuuge truck apparantly - on Pendine Sands. ๐Ÿ˜
I hope he has better luck than Parry-Thomas.

Explain the powerful pace car thing, Surely any big van that can do a ton will do?

To be totally honest i don't understand this at all!

How can it be "cycling" at 100mph when there is a car or whatever ahead of you conveniently pushing all that heavy air out of the way for you?

Why not just do it on a conveyor/treadmill etc?

Or hold you bike and just step out of an aeroplane at 5k feet?

Both will also allow you to "do" 100mph.....

Apparently you need one with the power of 1000 hores.

you need power to be able to drag the large fairing that the cyclist sits behind through the air at 100mph+.
and you need to be able to increase speed smoothly? and in one gear? I'd imagine too many gear changes might be dangerous.

so big heavy vehicle, with a big engine. 1,000 BHP sounds a bit overkill though.

Bugger just gone 1x10 on a 32t front or else I'd have had a go might still if I can get my cadence up to 500rpm

He is, but I guess that wasn't what he was getting at:

This has happened for years Dave LeGrys did 110mph behind a Rover SD1 in 1986

He goes beyond 100mph.
I know. He told me ๐Ÿ˜‰

the best/scariest bit is how they "applied brakes". Apparently Hope M4s aren't that good at those speeds.

Yeah I can vouch for that, we had the 6pot vented downhill brakes on Env (Hydrogen powered Motorcycle) and from 50mph it really was Hit and Hope ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I am officially faster than him on a pushbike (*), therefore, I will take it for granted that I could pedal at 110mph, I'm just choosing not to ๐Ÿ˜†

(* as long as he has to go for a lie down halfway through the race)

Non-aligned valves and logos just confirm his heterosexuality, along with his bugger's grips, of course.

Can someone check my maths?

208 gear inches, giving a speed of 49.5 mph @ 80rpm.

2 4:1 gear reductions on (assuming 27" wheels) gives 432 inches does it not? Which means roughly 77 rpm for 100mph.
