Can anyone recommend guides for gravity assisted singletrack in the Lenzerheide area?  I'm off looking for new locations for next years mates Alps holiday (been to Les Arcs 6 times - love it in the Tarantaise valley but looking for alternatives).

Apparently the bike park is pretty well organised and easy to navigate - but I'm also looking to find out what the back country scene is like (are you even allowed to ride bikes outside the park?) and so on.

Ok so the advice was to check the Herbert Bike site and contact a local guide using that.
Herbert Bike also do great offers on tickets, accommodation and uplifts for bikes as a bundle. It looks a great area to ride with some longer routes down to Chur and back up on a Bus or Post Auto...

Google Herbert Bike Lenzerheide and used the translate feature or:

Spent a week there last year, the back country stuff is immense, we self navigated using herberts maps you can email them for bit would happily use them as a guide if funding allowed. They were really helpful when we got there too as we were late in the year and needed alternatives as the top lift was shut. Have a look at their bahnen tour, there's a write up on it on pinkbike too.

We went with the aim of wild camping/bivvying but after a couple days really poor weather checked into a cheap lodge, this turned out to be ideal as the accommodation came with a free lift pass for the whole area and was cheaper per night than buying the pass on its own!

Grischalodge I think it's called, basic but comfortable and quiet, and significantly cheaper than anywhere else in the area barring airbnb. Imagine it's a bit of a teens abroad kinda place in winter but when we went in autumn it was nice. Feel free to drop me a message if you want to know owt else.

thanks, I spent 4 days staying at Sunstar hotel in lenzerheide (so got included lift passes).  I was there just checking the area out to see if we'll come properly riding next season.

observations

* it's very expensive compared to Germany/France, i.e. expect to pay for £15 for the cheapest thing on a lunch menu.  I saw a £17 bowl of soup at a mountain (nothing fancy restaurant).

* lift passes are expensive unless you get them bundled with your accomodation

* the park trails are amazingly cared for.  I saw people out sweeping them in the morning.

* back country trails are good and well signposted for the un-guided.  I didn't try out the trails down to Chur and so found them easier than other Alpine destinations (but still fun).

* I like the big swimming area!

* plenty of bike shops and a real positive attitude towards mountain biking (unlike Les Arc in France where it seems they just don't want us there)
