herding dog…

I am mildly curious as to why the continental herding dogs tend to be more suited for security work vs the UK equivalents eg whilst a border collie can be a complete pain in the neck if not kept properly amused they arent suited to security work.
As in what were the breeding factors which made the UK ones not right for the job.

Size & mass.

Edit: Also a stronger protective instinct (from herding, protection against predators).

I will also add they're not just used as protection dogs, they are also used as search dogs (explosives/drugs/people).

Good video here of their specialist use.

Wolves and bears? Don't the dogs often get left with the flock up on the mountain?

Yes but if someone is taking a reactive dog out in order to exercise them and maybe work with them to try to deal with the reactivity it is not unreasonable of the owner to say “please keep your dog away” or “please do not approach too close”.

Well that wasn't the case here. And if it was, then they should have have been collared, secured to a lead and muzzled. If you're taking reactive dogs into a public space without any precautions to reduce the chance of harm then you're an idiot that shouldn't be allowed to keep dogs because you're going to end up getting your dog destroyed.

Edit; Post replying to has been edited, which is fair enough. My point stands in regards to reactive dogs. Muzzles exist for a reason.

I had no idea they were dangerous dogs. My friend has one. She’s quite small and very well behaved.

Yeah, but what about the dog?

Size & mass.

Which is why they are more suited now but my musing is more about why they got that way as per my edit.
The uk ones seem purely herding whereas the continental ones are more up for a bit of brawling on the side.

They're now down as permanently closed on Google. Their last few reviews have taken their rating down somewhat. FB profile has all posts removed and specific location gone too. Looks like they've taken the hint and are laying low. Does anyone know if the YouTube guy has reported to police? Judging by the last Google review, this wasn't an isolated incident. 😡

TL:DR, waffles on about injuries, been recompensed for his damaged gear, no mention of reporting it to authorities.

Re reporting to the police in the update film and comments he says something along the lines of - for all you asking if I have reported it to the police it is now 'being sorted' but wont go intio details on a public forum. So i would take it he has.

I quite enjoyed his update and humour, glad he is okay but could have been so much more serious.

A few days ago some guy round the corner from us came out his house when my missus was walking past with our lab. He asked her to keep our dog on a lead when walking past his house as his dog is aggressive

Quelle surprise when I encountered him yesterday and his dog turned out to be a Malinois. The first sight of me and my dog and his Malinois was was growling and snarling.

The dogs clearly a fashion accessory. He's a young guy dressed hit to toe in ridiculous Balencigia clothing

I wonder what frame of mind they're in. Do they know they made a horrible mistake and are sorry for what happened, or do they just really regret having those ridiculous hiviz jackets made?

They've probably burnt those jackets by now 😃, the fact they just walked off initially and didn't care to ask if he was okay or offer to pay for any damage is very telling, good on Grumpy for saying Where'd you think you're going or words to that affect, he could've been a left a trembling mess and they just wouldn't have given a crap.

I'm sure there's an obvious response to that.
