Changed my chain,sprockets and bottom bracket.
I now have grumbly gears and no amount of adjusting will sort it.
I'm pretty certain I've got all the BB spacers in the right way .
If they are wrong would it grumble in all gears or just at an extreme?
Whats the chainring like?
I have a rather worn GX 1x11 setup on one bike, that I've decided to use to destruction and I'm collecting 12 speed bits.
I tried a new chain a while back - and the chainring was so horrifically noisy it sounded like something was broken or not meshing. Old chain back on - silent.
Incorrect chainline would, as you say, only causes issues at different points up and down the casette, not all the time.
Or possible incorrect routing of the chain through the derailleur plates.
A worn chain ring would cause grumbling, especially with a 1x setup when you pop a new chain on.
Worn chain rings aren't as bad on 2x systems as the chain isn't sat on the same sprockets all the time.
It's an issue I had on my fixed if running chain rings with 'even' number of teeth, and if I'd not changed the wheel/fixed a puncture for ages, and then popper the chain on, one link different, it would grumble. Worn ring. Changing the ring fixed it.
Narrow-Wide chainring-chain mismatch? Is that a thing on 11sd too?
IMO chainline isn't really an issue on 1x, not unless it's hideously wrong. And it definitely won't cause issues all the way through the block.
New chainring ordered. This is making a new drive train a very expensive thing.
Will replacing the chain before it needs doing increase the longevity of the cogged items?
narrow wide jockey wheels* and the chain on the wrong way (ie half a link wrong) will kind-of function but make a horrible noise.
*no I dont really get why these are needed either.
New chain ring fitted. No more grumbles.
