Hi guys, just a quick one regarding Grizedale forest and an apparent need to have a 'permit' for certain activities and events.
AFAIK no mountainbikers I know who have ridden there (or any other FC managed trail centre) have one of these but my sister who uses the forest to train her dogs for sled racing has been informed by someone she trains with that she requires one for the following:
Permission Charges
Why do we charge
We make a charge becauseProcessing permissions takes up staff time in administration.
Our forests cost money to manage, charging a permission fee helps us to fund the maintenance of facilities such as carparks and paths, plant trees and conserve habitats and wildlife.
Some events or activities may require work to be done in our forest such as felling trees or carrying out safety checks.
The Forestry Commission does not have spare capacity to provide staff to help plan and organise activities and events and so all the resources used are being displaced from other areas and have to be replaced by employing contractors and buying materials.
anyone know anything about this because as far as I can see the 'permit' isn't advertised on their webpage as a necessity and I cannot see how they can monitor who has one without stopping everyone partaking in wheeled sports in the forest.
kind regards

The rest of us pay through the car parking fees, I guess ๐
