[#9796697]

thin, especially at the outsides, tho not necessarily insides.

well cushioned for long term comfort, especially at the outsides

either single inner lock on, or stick on.

go

Sounds like the thin, soft variety of DMR Death Grips

So you want grips that are well cushioned, yet they're thin ?

Would you like raspberry sauce on your moon ?

Joking aside, out of all my grips (RaceFace, Hope, Funn, Rethal etc..) I'd say my Renthals Lock-Ons are the thinnest at the outide:

https://cycling.renthal.com/shop/cycle-products/cycle-grips/cycle-lockon-grips

And my advice is don't go 'single-clamp' as you'll probably end up twisting them. If you don't want the 'feel' of a clamp on the outside, e.g. rubber all the way, go with Hopes.

single clamp's fine, i'm currently running my double clamps with the outer off the bars anyway. they aren't moving.

i don't like those finger grips parts on deathgrips.otherwise they look allright, like the idea of the mushroom section with larger dia than the other end, but i'm really after the comfort of mushroom over the whole length.

currently looking at ODI Sensus Swayze stick on, or ODI F-1 Vapours

I really like Renthal kevlar push on grips.  Not too fat, they are comfy and grippy plus they last a reasonable time.  I lockwire them on and haven't had one move.

Has to be push on, the lock ons aren't as good because they have a plastic tube up em making them less comfy

Ergon GD1 are quite and comfy too. Prefer them to Death grips and as comfy as Renthals.

These taper

There's also some "science" involved. I've not tried them.

Bmx grips - glue them on - I hate the feel of lock ons .

yep stangey, the gd1 look good, despite tapering in the wrong direction.

they have more padding in the right place and come in slim size, so they'll be on the list then

ESI's look good to, but are they kind of foamy like old grips? or what is the texture like?

RaceFace Half nelsons are nice 29mm for the whole length other than the ickle lip at the end and the fatter inner for the lock ring. Soft for such a thin lock on - not exactly super squishy mind.

Another vote for thin soft DMR Deathgrips.

thanks benpinnick but half nelson's sound awful, to my taste anyway.

"why is it most grips work best when they're worn out?" they say. erm...

i've got some worn out grips. they feel shit : )

up till now i've been running uberbike lock-on mushroom style grips. really liked them and put them on everything, but these days i 'm getting sore hands and finding them too big at the pinky end.

Sort of rubber-foamy. But they don't feel like old foam grips. I love 'em tbh (the racer's edge- fatter ones give me hand fatigue) but they do tear up very easily in a crash

You'll want push on grips, not lock ons.

And even the thin death grips are quite thick, so don't get them.

BMX grips sound like a good plan. I found them too thin, but Kink omega grips are thin & soft.  I took them off my BMX but put them on my wife's bike and she found them very comfy.

I like ODI longnecks the push on ones with flange. just use some wire if you are worried about then slipping.

I use ODI longneck flangeless, hairsparay on, not used anything better. My experience with esi grips is I loved them, until I used them in the rain at Antur and my hand kept slipping off!

lovely job thanks eveyone.

looks like i'll need to get some terminator plugs form control tech to extend my bars 20mm each side, and get some push-ons, either some esis or some odis is reckon.

never liked my grips too thin, but i think than was partly in the old days when i braked with my middle finger. since i started using my index it seems my pinky and ring finger would appreciate smaller dia to get round.

ideally i'll get some vibrocore ars and some new gloves at some point too...

ESI get my vote, i used to suffer from hand fatigue and someone on here suggested i try them, i use the racers edge version which are the thinner of the 2 types.

I have another set coming for my hardtail from Charlie the bike.

Sounds like you'd enjoy a grip with a bulge in the middle - Chromag Squarewave fit the bill. I run the XL version but have pretty big hands

I was a big ESI fan but they rip up in any sort of off and worse then that once you get mud on them they are lethal, no grip at all.

If i could take my esi FIT's off and try the the 'wrong' way round i would... But i fear they wouldnt survive removal.
Esi have another new grip coming that might work better.
Also check out sushi grips. Interesting idea but im unsure how well they will hold up with their mount system after a gew good whacks or big compressions. I ride with most of my weight through the oiter part of my hands so most of my weight would be through the grip extensions not the bars.

Despite looking a bit pish, these are my favourite grips at the moment.
https://www.pro-bikegear.com/global/en-gb/accessories/Grips/PRO_GP_DLSPORT
Thin but with some cush, as the plastic core is only on the underside. Internal wedge on the outboard side means they’ve got the security benefits of dual clamp grips, but with the comfort and added usable width of a single clamp. Good in the wet too.

a it pish : )

will have a look

sushi grips don't exist bearback; they never made funding. be nice if he got soomeone else to take on the idea tho. they looked interesting.

despite living somewhere dry, i don't like the sound of ESIs getting slippy.

nobody tried these new F! grips from ODI then? they look like and sound like they have loads of squish

+1 on the Half Nelsons.

The whole ‘worn out’ thing is just crap marketing spiel. They don’t twist around (for me) , they’re not outright stuff sticking to them tacky but they’re about as close as you get without.

For me push on grips are much more comfy and they don't creak on steep climbs.

jonny, ever been over the bars in mud and put your hands out? Muddy gloves on ESI grips is like lube!

ESI, there are some cheaper copies around, e.g. Superstar. don';t know if they're just as good. Silicone foam is what you're looking for.

Never liked lock on grips as the plastic sleeve takes up thickness, so you get a fatter grip and/or less cushioning - exactly the opposite of what you want.

i got of these ODI F-1 Vapors in the end.

really nice. quality control is obviously a bit lacking yet. the mouliding is messy and there's a serious fault with one of the two, but i stuck them on anyway cos i'm impatient and can't feel it.

anyway, they are described as medium dia. but with the finger cut-otu things on the underside, it cuts down the circumference quite a lot. they're super sticky and very good cushioning. so well pleased.

now need to get my bars extended a bit so my hands go back to where they like to be. terminator plugs ordered.
