Upgrading my crankset to the Eagle GX shortly and thinking of using a grip shift over the conventional thumb lever ... are they any good ?

I have no idea about the current Gripshift but the ones of the past were terrible IME.

I don't dislike the principle but the execution was poor - I assume they have worked very hard on the reliability though.

Only ever used X0 shifters with X0 ot X9 mechs. Worked flawlessly all the time. Much prefer then to regular shifters. The ability to go from bottom to top and back again in one movement is brilliant.

Going to swap my GX thumb shifter for the Grip Shift soon. Got 9 speed X0 on my Scott Tampico as a test to see if I liked it first.

What loddrik said about the shifting is a strong selling point for me ๐Ÿ™‚

Modern gripshift is very good, positive shifting able to dump or grab a lot of gears in one go. XO here as well.

Interested in this as bought one a while ago to see if it helped a tendon problem I have, not fitted it yet though! Might be up for sale if anyone wanted it? It's xx1 eagle.

Grip shift tends to be love hate - I think it's great but got it cheap off here (SRAM XO) from someone who didn't like it.

I now have SRAM on all my bikes and like the crisp shifting.

GX one one bike here. Love it for the quick end to end across the block thing.
Aesthetically is great too, clean looking handlebars.
Love it on my XC bike. Not sure I would want it on the Gnarpoon though.

Went to grip on the main bike about 5 years ago. Currently have the gx11 and its great positive, big shifts are easy, clean lines. Couple of issues if your brakes are very short getting a comfortable position apart from that love it and will stay with it.

I've been on grip for years now. Currently run GX 11 speed and have no plans to change. Reliable, simple, perfect to use.

Was always a big fan of the X.0 9 speed Grip Shift, but didn't like the XX1 11 speed one I had, went to XTR trigger when they came out, which I prefer. YMMV.

I'm a long term gripshift user , clear cased x-ray ones onward.
I prefer the simplicity of the older ones but I have 10 and 11 speed ones and they have yet to need anything other than cables.
