Mrs juan have them on the bike and she doesn't like them a bit (in fact O don't either as for her to reach the brake lever she has to ride with the whole hand on the grip).
Building her a eco-bike I was thinking of shortening them with an hack-saw and putting some longer grips.
Is that doable or am I going to get stuck...?

yeah, you can cut them down. Not too much though or she won't be able to grip them at all...
