[#1647159]

are you allowed to cycle on the footpath version now the rights have all changed - or do I need to stick to the GG Cycle route version?

Thanks.

It's debatable. Land set aside for a particular purpose is exempt.

In the last couple of years I've cycled the footpath a couple of times because it's more fun and the cycle route is stupidly dangerous in parts. Never had a problem.

excellent, thanks.

yeah, didn't like the look of some road sections (especally as I would be doing it with kids).

sounds like they don't have signs up saying keep off the footpath, and the official guide only says it was designed for walkers, and the cycle route is more suited for bicycles - nothing about not being allowed to ride it.

I spoke to one of the GGW rangers, a couple of years back, she said that they'd improved the trail surface on the GGW and they were advising mtbers to ride the walking route rather than the cycle route as it was more enjoyable, I was on a skinny tyred touring bike, so just went along the road, which was a bit scarey here and there.
give them a shout to clarify

It really honestly gives me a warm feeling to see people in these positions saying things like this. This country really does seem to have its head screwed on well.

It will not be "land set aside for particular purpose"

Cycles can go almost anywhere subject to it being reasonable. I see no issue with riding it.

As long as you are considerate to other users then there are no problems.

The only people that would notice and take issue would be redsox from south of the border. I'm sure you could find an appropriate reply in the remote possibility that someone said something to you. It's nigh on empty for most of its length anyways.

Hi there, I use the Inverness to Abriachan part of the GGW as a workout. Never had any problems with locals or walkers - just be polite, stop have a chat, smile, say thanks if they have moved out the way, be prepared to stop and let them by. Enjoy it.
