[#8023606]

I bought a second hand gravity dropper classic to see if I liked having a dropper seat post. I do but it keeps just randomly extending from the compressed position, (which is horrible) usually over a big bump or hard braking.
Anyone know how to stop this from happening?
Thank you in advance.

Had one of those for years, I think your problem is caused by the screw collar on top of outer shaft being too loose or too tight (cant remember which) try giving it half a turn tighter and see if that solves it, if not try the other way. I think if its slightly in the wrong place it stops the pin engaging properly, check out their website for other solutions.

If it's served it's purpose move onto something new. If you want to get it working you'll have to strip it down and see what needs fixing. Discussion here.

Have a look at their support pages here

If you get nowhere with that send it back for a service

TBH since it's used and since they're so simple to work on, I'd just give it a strip, clean and grease- it'll always be worth doing and it'll correct some of the things that could cause this (cable, dirt/ excess grease in the hole stopping the pin engaging) and show up some of the others (wear/damage to the hole). Does it reliably stay up?

Might be the cable is sticking so the lever doesn't spring back far enough. Temporary solution is to help the lever out by pulling it back with your thumbnail. Otherwise as Northwind.

Thank you will try all of the above by think you might be on to something with the cable. It was meant to have been serviced before I bought it...
Thanks for the help.

i suspect the pin is not going fully into the lock position to keep it down - even when you release it you are still meant to have to apply weight to the saddle to get the post to move up

Check collar
check the pin actually fits - you can unbolt the newer models
Cable and general operation

Possibly just a VERY SMALL AMOUNT of grease on the pin will be enough

The gravity dropper help section is excellent and has got me out of a hole a few times. The tolerances seem reasonably tight and half a turn here or there can make all the difference.
