Why is the word 'work' in brackets in the following sentence? This has been bugging me for ages.

"It's just that the people that really want to get [work] get it," he says.

Sorry wrong forum...doh!

Whatever's in the square brackets is not verbatim from the quote.

The original quote might've been something like:

"It's just that the people that really want to get [b]it[/b] get it."

But as that doesn't make sense with no context, it's altered to:

"It's just that the people that really want to get [work] get it"
