Any suggestions on best links to get GPX file reading software for my PC please?

Notepad should do, they're XMLs. That, or Garmin Basecamp.

By file reading, do you mean upload & display a nice map ?
If yes then https://www.walklakes.co.uk/maps/ or www.gpsies.com
walklakes gives full screen OS maps if you log in.
