Collective wisdom of Singletrack, could you recommend a GPS unit thatticks the following boxes

Good for recording routes
Ability to easily upload to googlemaps
Can be used for on-screen navigation as well(ideally with maps on?)
Incorporates HR and possibly power (for future - ain't got a meter yet!)
Good battery life (at least 8 hours)
Easy to upload files into from google earth/maps
Turn by turn navigation

Is there anything that would tick all those boxes please?

Thanks

It's a bit chunky, but take a look at the Garmin Dakota:

[*]Chunky = rugged. I wouldn't think twice about chucking mine about (within reason...).[/*]
[*]Good battery life and uses standard AAs so you can replace them mid ride / over a weekend, and use rechargeables if you prefer.[/*]
[*]Good reception, records tracks very reliably.[/*]
[*]Integrates with cadence and heart rate monitors, which you can add later.[/*]
[*]Can be bought with OS maps (works out cheaper but never cheap) or with a bit of time at the PC you can make use of free versions.[/*]
[*]Easy to pull off files for upload to all your usual web-based stuff, plus the Garmin software it comes with which actually doesn't do a bad job at managing your library of tracks and routes.[/*]

HTH.

I think Garmin are pretty much the only GPS that ticks every one of those boxes.

Personally I'd get a Satmap Active 10 and get a separate HR monitor like a Casio watch one. The Satmap is a better package for off road riding in my opinion. Tough, big screen and buttons instead of touch screen.

Is the Edge 800 any good? What is battery life like?

I am hoping to use this in Spain and Portugal to map and re-find rides in the wild, hence the good battery life and the need to upload/download routes/maps if poss

Thanks

Very happy with the Edge 800 and connectivity with Garmin's site. Can be used for nav but the screen is small. Great for following routes though. Satmap was a bit too bit for me.

Can anybody tell me what battery life is realistic with the Edge 800? And how long does it take to recharge?

Thanks
