Eye wateringly expensive aren't they ?I got a Cosmo (camo ) off the classifieds for a "good" price .It's an excellent piece of kit but i cringed at what i got it for .But £150 ? Surely they are having a laugh ?After all they are made in China probably for bobbins .

Yes, it's made in China for bobbins - pop out there with your own design and get a factory to make it up for you. For bobbins. Then factor in your design and employee overheads, cost of your premises, marketing and development, the endless testing of fabric durability, colour-fastness, abrasion resistance etc that Gore does as a matter of course - I've seen in action - distribution costs, a retailer margin, and so on.

I'm not, by the way, saying, that Gore stuff isn't pricey, but while it would be nice to be able to buy all your biking stuff at cost, that's not realistic. The bike industry is a business and a fair number of folk on here make a living from it, not a charity so we can all go riding for minimal cost.

Anyway...

Yep they're pricey, but they work (which is not something that can be said for other expensive pieces of clothing marketed to cyclists) and they last for years. Mine old phantom N2S is on it's 4th? or 5th (I think) winter now, and OK is a bit tatty, but hasn't let me down yet.

After suffering for years through winter wearing shorts I cracked earlier this week and bought a pair of Gore Oxygen Bib-longs.

Wore then on Tuesday with ice on the ground and they were fantastic:
Very expensive, but my God, they are soooo warm and comfortable.
If they last five winters it's only £20.00 a year, so can justify it that way.

However, looking like Max Wall when out on the bike? Inexcusable.

Or buy a pertex windshirt for a 3rd of the price, and have a more breathable and versatile garment... 😉

Made in Germany still aren't they?

W.L.Gore have repeatedly been rated the best company in the world to work for, so it appears some of their profit goes into ensuring the staff are happy. Seems like a good way of working!

Got a Gore Tool as a winter commuting jacket. 5 days a week, for 3-4 months. It's now on it's 4th year, and although looking slightly tatty round the edges is still a top notch, warm, windproof, a;most waterproof piece of kit.

Sure it was expensive, but not over the time I've had it. It should certainly last this winter out, and possibly the next as well.

Gore windstopper is "cheap" compared to the equivalent Assoss or Castelli windstopper garments...but they are fabulous too

I believe Gore are one of the few companies that actually owns it's own factories in the far east. I'm very happy with my windstopper. 🙂

Actually my Gore Xenon and Phantom Plus jackets are both a fair bit warmer than my Assos 851. The Assos fits slightly better, and has loads more pockets in more useful places, but isn't actually as warm, and costs twice as much!

Gore windstopper gilet wearer here - fantastic - looking a bit tatty after a couple of winters worth of daily commuting but well worth the money, likewise my Rapha softshell. Silly money even if I did buy it in the sale. But as mentioned ^^ for the amount of use and wear I get out of them they don't seem too bad.

(likewise lights - baulked slightly at shelling out for a Maxx-D. 14 months on of approx 2+ hours of daily use, 5 days a week without a fault seems like £20odd a month isn't too bad)
