As title really.

Time for a new gear cable set and wondering if they're worth paying the extra for.

I have already tried putting new cables in and lubing them but the shifting is still rubbish and the outers have seen better days.

Can you put a full length outer on instead?

It's split section routing so not an option.

In a word: YES!

Worth every penny IMHO. Fit 'em and forget 'em. Seriously. Over 18 months out of mine with no need for adjustment at all. They just work. They're fully sealed so no crap gets in at all.

Try Transfill Mudlovers for the same thing only slightly cheaper

Easy enough to fit compared to standard cable sets?

Yes if you do it right and follow the instructions. And don't lube them ๐Ÿ™‚

Although if this is true

I have already tried putting new cables in and lubing them but the shifting is still rubbish

then you have issues that need looking at....

Mech is straight but when I put the new inners in I can feel binding through the cable hence the need for a new set. There's a kink in the outer just off the ferrule before it's routed down the down tube.

It's on a road bike BTW, not that that will make any difference.

I think I got something like 3 years excellent shifting out of a set on a Cannondale I had gears ago. They were a little more fiddly than standard cables but I think the new ones are supposed to be more user friendly.

Good investment. Follow the instructions for fitting off the Gore website, not the printed version that comes with the cable set. There are subtle differences and the aim is not to damage the gore inner cable coating in any way.

Absolutely - to be honest it's hard to understand why all cables aren't set up like the Rideons.

Just take your time installing them, because you do NOT want to cut something too short, it's an expensive mistake to make!

Took the plunge and fitted them on Saturday with first ride on Sunday.

Gear changes are now crisp and slick and just a gentle flick with my right hand needed to change gear. ๐Ÿ˜€

The beauty of it is that it'll stay that way too. Money well spent ๐Ÿ˜€

Yes, yes, yes. I fitted some about 18 months to 2 years ago. True fit and forget set up. My local woods has axle deep mud sections for around 9 months of the year and cable servicing was previously once a month. Never touched these since fitting except the occasional tweak at the shifter. They have out lived one XTR (made of toffee) rear mech.

I thought I'd done something wrong when I indexed them. A couple of turns of the barrel bolt and done. Took about 10 seconds. I would faff around for ages with my old cable set and they would still be rubbish.
