I recently bought a GoPro. However I'm using the now rather old Windows Vista on my PC.
Ive tried VideoLan Media player. Videos upside down, I turned them right way around for viewing but they're still uploading upside down on utube?
WMM doesnt want to read my files at all, im hoping I can get VLA working or does anybody else know of any free software that can be used with Windows Vista these days?
Any help hugely appreciated ๐
I'm not sure, but does GoPro cineform work with Vista? If it does, its worth using just to convert files to Avi. that way they are easier to use. (It's downloadable free from the GoPro Website)
As far as other free software for edits, Windows movie maker will do the job for you just fine ๐
VLC player will play everything - not sure about windows vista but i'm sure you can get VLC with that
also just to make sure - have you checked the settings on the GoPro - if its new you will have to put it into PAL settings (comes in NTSC as standard and thats for the good ol' USofA) also double check that the video is shooting the right way up as there is a setting on the camera whcih allows you to have the camera film upside down (for use with the chesty mount)
I think Vimeo has a post-upload editing tool that you can use to invert? Your videolan isn't actually changing anything, it's just rotating the video for viewing.
Sony Vegas free trial is eminently abusable for editing. (get 10 Premier or above, the lower end ones don't handle gopro footage well at all).
Oh, lastly, recent Gopros- HD and upwards- all have the option to invert when recording I think, so you can set that when using the camera upside down and dodge the issue entirely.
Quick answer: Rotate the video in youtube's editor after you've uploaded it. http://www.youtube.com/editor
It sounds like VLC is just flipping the video playback rather than re-rendering the file itself. I'm sure there are plenty of video editors available for Vista for free, I can't name any though. Quicktime on my Mac will save the flipped video, might be worth trying the PC version of that.
PAL/NTSC only has a bearing if you play directly from the GoPro to an old telly. Computers (and most recent flat TVs) don't have the same limitations. I.e. don't worry about changing the settings.
Quicker solution enable the upside down mode in the camera. In the instructions unless they removed it after the 2
