Hi All. I have decided i want to buy a gopro for mountain biking but i am a bit confused by all of the models.

I don't need all the bells and whistles, I simply just want to chest mount a camera and record riding.  I live in Hebden bridge / Todmorden area which has some excellent riding so most of my recording will be of the local descents etc.

What do you use?  Could anyone help advise on any good deals for what i am looking for?

Sorry if this topic has been covered before, i couldn't see anything recent.

Thanks

GoPro session is the simplest version if you just want to point and shoot. Inbuilt battery, so no way to carry spares (though I guess you could charge it with a power bank). No screen, so you would have to use an app on your phone to compose a shot, but when chest mounted you just try a few times and get an idea of what position you want it in. Also means it's the smallest, cheapest, and it's waterproof without an external case.

I don't know a massive amount about GoPros tbh, but I did all my research at the time and that's what I ended up with. Occasionally it would be nice to have an LCD for off the bike shots and photographs, but for on the bike I think it makes more sense (if the battery life is sufficient for you).

Is there not a new basic GoPro simply called the Hero?  That may be a good option if it is compatible with the vast range of GoPro stuff available.  If it's just low on the features you don't want but takes decent video it sounds ideal

Well impressed with my Session 5. Video quality is miles better than the Silver 3+ it replaced. Battery life is ok and lasts long enough for my needs. Looks like AO.com might be the best price at the minute for the Session 5

I have the Hero5 and it's superb. I need to get a chest mount as it's currently mounted on my handlebars and can get a bit dizzy watching it back

I got a GoPro-alike from the wonderful world of eBay - £25 delivered. Picture's crisp and clear, connects to phone via wifi, vids work with Quik (the go-pro vid app) and it's still going 18 months on. The waterproof case is even waterproof!!

Basically all the fun of a GoPro without the worry if it gets trashed!

Get the cheapest one you can then you won't feel like you've wasted a lot of money when it sits in the cupboard for months after the initial novelty has worn off.
