Ive been running chromium on an old netbook for a few weeks for a laugh.

It doesnt 100% support my hardware, but if it did (like it will of course for a proper chromebook) it would be pretty nice thing to have.

Good for kids to have a keyboard, only problem I suppose is that you're only one google search away from the big bad porny world, but no platform is wholly safe.

Basically all the chromebook is is a fast booting netbook with everything running through a chrome browser running in a linux shell. Your googleworld is all there, with online and offline applications avauilable from your chrome launch screen.

If you want to havea go at testing it yourself, it's a ten minute job to create a bootable USB OS and launch your own notebook on it. With the caveat that not all hardware may be supported.

Start off with a vanilla build from hexxeh
http://chromeos.hexxeh.net/

I personally wouldnt go for a chromebook as a purchase because i need a windoze unit to run excel (which I have my other netbook set up for). So Im going to get a nexus 7 for sofa surfing instead.

Might see how that runs on my kids' computer, which is currently creaking under the strain of XP.
