I've got M785 brakes on both my anthem and my recently built Orange 5.
Difference is ive fitted Goodridge hoses on my Anthem.

Brakes on my anthem are anchors, absolutely solid brakes.

On the other hand my M785's on my 5 are no comparison.
I've bleed them twice and no improvement.

So is it really down to my Good ridge hoses making such a difference?

I thought it was 'proven' (or forum discussed to death) that there's not enough pressure with a bicycle disc brake to make braided hoses worthwhile.

I wonder if its simply that the hose space is narrower in the good ridge hoses, giving it more of a solid feel as there's less fluid to compress?

Goodridges on my nomad are awful. Standard on my scale are brilliant. Getting standard ones for the nomad.

Bad bleed?
Mine are totally standard but rock solid.
I always bleed them with the pads in and pumped out so they are virtually touching.

Brake fluid is incompressable so shouldn't be the volume. Might be that there's less fluid to potentially contain bubbles though but a degassed/demoisturised fluid (straight out of a new bottle) shouldn't make a difference. Left in a bottle it absorbs moisture from the air in the bottle.

Mineral oil in Shimano brakes, doesnt absorb moisture like DOT fluid does.
I'd go with a bleed accounting for the difference in feel.

If the lever is firm it is more likely down to factors such as adequate brae pad bed in. Perhaps the pads are contaminated etc. just a thought.
