Hi all,
We've got a cottage for a week near Bedale on the east side of the park.
I've never been to the area before so i'm looking for a nice family route but also something more fun for me to sneak off too.
i've some routes here but can anyone give any good first hand local advice?

The Edge
Start/finish: Reeth
Distance: 24 miles (40km)
A classic tour of Swaledale taking in some of the best routes in the area. The highlight for most people is likely to be the two great rocky descents dropping from Fremington Edge, and then into Gunnerside Gill.
This is a belting route for you to sneak off too, or get your self to the dales bike centre and ask Stu for some routes he's a top fella and the cake's good as well
As above, the Reeth loop is the best Dales route I've ever done. I found navigation a bit tricky in a couple of places so give yourself plenty of time!

From Bedale you can reach the north York Moors just as easily as the Dales. In fact some of the routes on the Western scarp are closer than the Dales. The cafe at white Horse Bank is not up to Dales Bike Centre standard but is still worthwhile. Or if trail centers are your thing Dalby is not too far away.

My Dales favorite is west from Castle Bolton to Nappa Scar, north on the Crackpot road to pick up the Apedale Road (an old quarryman's road - not tarmac and a quick descent), before returning to Castle Bolton.
