I'm going to have a look at a bike tonight and I would appreciate opinions as to whether it's a good deal. It's a 2003 Giant NRS 1 with the following spec:

XT rear mech, deore LX front mech and shifters (drivetrain replaced end of 2008, which I'm guessing means at least the cassette and chain and maybe more)
Hope Mono brakes (probably 2006)
Marzocchi Bomber Marathon SL forks (2004)
Rock Shox Monarch 2.1 rear shock (end of 2008)
Mavic Tubeless Rims
Panaracer tyres

My research suggest this is a decent deal at £450 if not a screaming bargain, assuming it's in good shape. Am I right? Is there anything I need to pay particular attention to?

Cheers,
Matthew

No funny noises when you test it.
Check for new bushes or pivot bearings - no play or clunk when you ride it off curbs. + 'right' rebound speed on shocks - sounds like a good deal - but try a haggle.

Cheers. I've bought it. It needs a new BB so I talked him down to £380 including some lights and a nice Spesh pump.

🙂

The guy I got it from lives a few hundred yards from a bike repair place so I popped in on my test ride to ask their opinion. Thought that was rather clever...

Oh, and I've just noticed the bike has a Thomson Elite seatpost. Sweet. 8)
