Evening all,
I'm up in Penrith tomorrow for an interview, thought I could blast a route after I'm done....should be out by 1pm, shame not to enjoy the local terrain!
Any suggestions appreciated.
Road or off road?
Eamont bridge south A6 through the gatehouse, through the caravan site to the Lowther castle, right on the road through askham village, at the shop turn left to helton village take the first right about half a mile past helton onto a off road climb towards moor divock, cross the tarmac road head towards the standing stone.
Theres lots of options here, take a pink os (sheet 90) map you might have time to do the Howtown bridleway, return via pooley bridge, Roadhead farm moordivock again but keep left onto Heughscar hill and join the bridleway back to askham, lowther, penrith. 8) enjoy and let me know how you get on..
^ that's cycleactive country there, did my tcl around those bridleways, happy memories of fun rides, well worth OP heading out that way.
Nice loop, although I joined the moor via the bridleway by High Winder - right at mini roundabout on the A6, just after hump back bridge following A66 crossing. Continue to Tirrill & take left turn as you exit village. Turn left at top of lane. Two bridleways onto common, I took 2nd, which is via the track over the cattlegrid on your right, on the summit of the hill.
To be honest all of the trails will be spot on up there at the moment, its often windy, so that might ba a consideration..
Thanks for the suggestions; I made such a hash of the interview that I fudged off the rest of the day, I just couldn't stop thinking about my rubbish answers...painful (for the panel)in extremis.
However, I will use your advice over the next week or so; would be great to hook up with peeps if interested.
Peace and love.
