Sorry this will have been done 100000000000000 times before

Off to North Berwick (East of Edinburgh) for a family holiday next week. I'm hoping to slope off with the bike for half a day. Looks like the local riding is nothing to write home about, so looks like we'll be off to Glentress or Innerleithen.

If you had the choice of one of the two, which would you do?

If Glentress, which would you do - red or black, or combo of both?

I've done GT black and bits of the red maybe 5yrs ago. Been on an uplift day at Inners but not done the xc.

Before anyone suggests it, much as I would like to explore the pentlands I think a trail centre is the way to go - being able to turn up at a trail centre and 'just ride' is an advantage due to minimising faffing time.

Cheers!

Innerleithen. Do the XC loop and have a play on the DH runs.

Or if you prefer Glentress, I'd do the black round to the top of Deliverence and if you can find it, go down Broon Troot and pick up the black again.

Myself Glentress - mix of (mainly) red and blue with some time at the freeride. I think you get more time descending for the amount of climbing at Glentress and you get more options

However others will say innerleithan for its more rocky and harder (perhaps) nature

Pentlands is fine riding but hardly worth travelling to.

There's a route in the VG Scotland guide that takes in Innerleithen and some natural bits. Not tried it though.

Innerleithen XC, far more satisfying of the two.

Although the climbs a bitch at Innerererleithen the descent far outweighs it. GT is a little too bitty for my liking, lots of little sections strung together as apposed to a nice complete ride.

I think Innerleithen's XC route has the better bits, but there's much less to it and it's harder to link up/mix up, it's much more of a 1 climb/1 descent... Whereas Glentress can be pick and mixed and doubled back so much more easily. So you can do the first climb, then Zoom or Bust, then up and do the red down to Pie Run, then up and do the black or red or both, then back up to pie run/mushroom pie- I like to loop those because the climb's so short- then finish up on the red. Or something like that ๐Ÿ˜‰ Just pick and choose.

It's not like there's a wrong answer, they're both fantastic. But it's GT I spend most time at because there's just so much there.

Inners. Proper descents, proper climbs. If you must do GT I find the red more "fun" than the Black.

+1

miss out the second to last bit of the xc loop, the bit that drops off the fire road to the right as you approach. (Instead, go straight on through the gate and up the left fork of the road way. head along this until you pick up the second DH section.

blast down that then do Caddon Bank to the car park.
superb.

Do you have the fitness do both? Only 5 miles apart. Inners first with Make or Break/Cresta Run added in then drive (or follow the river path if no car) to GT: Do the red climb but include Zoom or bust then up to do spooky wood then follow blue and on to Redemption or Broon Troot to join the black to finish.
If only one then Inners.
