Here's hoping!
Dan Atherton has been asked to build a freeride bike park at the Golfie.
Inside sources suggest this to be untrue. I have to say I'm glad- the Golfie would be changed for the worse with machine built jump lines. The plans put forward ages ago suggested the first trail to go in would be a blue flow trail cutting through a large number of the existing trails.
the worse with machine built jump lines.
Perhaps, but wouldn't it be nice to have some nice jumps around?
It would be nice to have some nice jumps yes but not at the expense of other trails that are already there.
I could see there being scope to squeeze in a couple of bikeyparky style trails at the Golfie, if they wanted to create a more varied offering for an uplifted service.
Would there not be more planning, consultation and communication around such an effort though? Considering how much of a fuss DMBinS like to make about everything else.
Rather than Dan Atherton just turning up in his digger and getting stuck in?
I don't see why Forestry Scotland would put money into crowd-drawing jump park trails when the access to Caberston (Golfie) is so bad. There is nowhere to park, no facilities toilets cafe etc, and no obvious flat land to build anything. They need these things to make a return on investment.
My understanding is that the Golf Club own the clubhouse and the land for the golf course at the bottom of Caberston - any compulsory purchase order needs to be approved by Scottish Ministers so would be a matter of public record.

They need to spread the love to the other centres a bit as well.
It seems to be a longstanding problem that it's easier to secure funding for something new rather than to maintain something that already exists. I guess it is easier to pitch new shinies to the people with money that boring old maintenance.
I think a second borders uplift venue would be great- it's just I can't see why you'd do it at the golfy. The existing trails would be as much a hindrance as a benefit for the new project, and wouldn't stand up to uplift levels of traffic. And the hill itself isn't all that well suited. Most of all multi-locations are a better draw for visitors, the valley would be a much better draw with 2 really distinct uplift venues or one massive one while also having the pedallable stuff. (look at South Wales- BPW by itself can draw people for a day or so, but BPW + BMCC + FOD + Cymcarn can draw people for a week or more)
Find another hill, make a new thing. Get Shaun Bevan or someone in who can really work a hill and do really detailed, sustainable trails like at Dirt Farm.
Or, upgrade innerleithen's uplift road (or just make it go to the top), it's the natural location if you want to add jump lines, you could smash in machine built trails there without too much bother.
