Some quick (and probably stupid/obvious) questions that I'm hoping someone on here more knowledgeable that I can give me a quick answer to.

The braking on my Formula K24s was pretty poor out in the Alps this summer, and I decided to try to sort it out today. I was expecting to have to bleed them, but the lever didn't feel too bad. I changed the pads out, and after a few hard stops to bed them in, they're working perfectly again. Loads of material left on the old pads, but the surface looks rather shiny, so....
1) is it possible that the pads have 'glazed'? How would I tell? What is glazing anyway? If not, what else might be wrong?
2) Are the old pads any use to me?
3) How do I avoid this happening in the future?

Many thanks!!

1.

the surface looks rather shiny
is your answer ๐Ÿ˜‰
2. I'd say not - had a similar thing with pads (superstar ๐Ÿ˜€ ) on my old juicy 7's. I used wet and dry to get the shine off but, they glazed up again. New set of pads (more since, all superstar, now on Elixirs') and no probs.
3. Dunno. I cleaned my rotors with proper cleaner and make sure I bed things in better - I live on a hill so i ride further up than I did, before turning round and hitting the brakes hard / regularly on the way back down ๐Ÿ˜€ Some folk say bedding in is not needed, tried that once on a new set, ride was cold, wet and gritty, pads died on that one ride, bedded in pads, in similar conditions have been fine..

Thanks for that - It's good to know I was on the right track at least!
