Horrible seeing him drop off like that. I suppose as a Brit I have to be happy that this has been caused because another British rider (I know, I know...) is also competing for a GT win. Ignoring the in-house Sky squabbling between Froome and Wiggins, has there every been a scenario, this far into a GT where there are two Brits genuinely competing to win the thing?

My estimations are there's 45km of climbing before the end of the stage.  If Sky keep this going today, thats going to create a large gap as Klunk says.

wonder if yates will climb off and claim illness? peddling squares and overheating, going to be better than coming in so far down

2 minutes down already

Gutted - though I half-expected this would happen after yesterday. Wonder if he's just feeling the efforts he's put in or if he is ill as some rumours suggest.  On the plus side at least it should stop people assuming he's a doper as per earlier in this thread!

Time to turn off the live feed and wait for the highlihgts to see if Froome can bite a bunch of time back

Damn!

Just started watching - poor old Yates

They ALL look like death warmed-up though.  Interesting to see how it pans out overall

Yates 4:30 back, Pink Jersey gone what a shame.   Its about Froome & TD now, will Froome blow?

Yes, at 37 seconds - 73km (and 2 climbs) still to go!

Holy crap, I would not want to descend on that, especially competitively.

Shame for Yates, but hey.. he held the Pink and won stages whilst wearing it..

Awesome lad.

Not bothered if Froomidge rides off the front, he shouldn't even be in the race with the doping allocation investigation still being heard. He should have never signed on.

Hope Tom does well, and SunWeb (ten Dam) dribbles in the camera... great squad.

If froome pulls this off, it's the stuff of legends. It's like he's taken over contadors role.

TomDum has people with him but they aren't helping him at all. So it's Froome vs TomDum, as a straight fight.

Yes he should. Unless you're an advocate of changing the rules to suit your own opinions.

Here's a thought. Sky buried themselves on one climb today and then sat up (apart from Poels). It's not like they've pulled for 4 hours. Plenty fresh-ish legs left for tomorrow...

Gutted for Yates, absolutely gutted. But at the same time, what a race this Giro is turning in to, just magnificent. It'll be very interesting to see if Froome can make this stick, in theory Dumoulin's group should bring him back but I have this sneaky suspicion they won't.

No he shouldn't. He should show some respect to the Race.

Yates is still a legend. Can't take that away from him. Froome too. Best Grand Tour I've watched fora long time.

If he can keep this up, he could well be in Pink later on.  What a story that would be.

Very much devil's advocate this but is that the role where you win the race and then get stripped of the victory a few months later when your AAF is heard? Kind of a bad choice of rider to compare him to!

Nope, I meant he'll be the rider to actually make the race interesting. You know, attack with 80km, and 3 climbs still to go.

But yeah, there's other similarities 😁

Dare I ask if this is a bit Floyd Landis into Morzine in 2006?

this is incredible, isn't it?

TD less than a minute ahead of Froome with another +5000m to go?

How steady is the gap between them?
