Just took delivery of a new Athlon helmet ordered online from merlin. It was in the sale so it was only £45 which I thought was ok, it seems to be an old model though hence the discount without the RocLoc twisty wheel thing to tighten things up. Should I spend the extra cash and exchange it for the 2011 version? Are the new helmets better?
I just tried one of the new "Xar" helmets on and I have to say, the new RocLoc system does seem to grip the back of your head better compared to my Xen. More impressive given the voluminous size of my bonce and the difficulty I have finding helmets that fit!
Having said that, if I wasn't looking to replace my old helmet anyway, I wouldn't bother upgrading for the sake of it - the Xen has done me well for a few years with "just" the old roc-loc 4!
The click wheel is nice to have but the older Athlons are still a great helmet. Unless you can find a newer one at close to that price, I'd not worry!
This years model is £71 so might just save the cash and invest in more shiny bits if there isn't much difference.
