[Closed] Giant XTC or Kinesis FF29?

[#4288097]

So if I was after a bike to race as well as trails any thoughts on Giant XTC Composite 1 (can get one for just over a grand) or build on an FF29 (if I can find one in stock!)?

I can (probably) get a go on the Giant, but not the Kinesis. If I went FF29 I've got 120mm Rebas which I could leave or drop to 100mm. Would run 1x10, so would strip some bits off the Giant.

The Giant seems a steal at that price, but I can re-use bits on the FF29. Giant appears more 'race-specific', but reviews of read say it's a confidence inspiring ride.

where?

That would be telling. If I don't go for it and post it up as a PSA.

Any more thoughts on the FF29?

chap I ride with has FF29 (not green) with kinesis carbon forks. Loves it and races it. Not that light though which would sem to be the main diff between the two IMO. Its a nice build though

Buy the XTC. You can always have a go mine. I think with a bit of swapping around and selling off the other bits you wont get a better race bike for even 3 times the money. I love mine whether it racing or just riding.

Buy it anyway if you don't like it sell it and make a profit towards something else. I don't think you would have trouble selling it.

I like Kinesis but they are generally very unforgiving frames.

I've got a FF29 built up with 100mm Rebas, 2x10 XT, crests and Thomson gear, rides brilliantly and is more than comfortable enough.

Mines 24lbs all up in a medium.

That's the thing; with the FF29 I would go for a similar build, but with the Giant I would be stuck, at least for a while, with stock wheels, brakes etc.

Buy the XTC. You can always have a go mine. I think with a bit of swapping around and selling off the other bits you wont get a better race bike for even 3 times the money. I love mine whether it racing or just riding.
Cheers Ollie

What size XTC Composite are you thinking of - I may just happen to be selling a frame in Medium ๐Ÿ˜‰

p.s. only selling as it's too small for me (why don't Giant to a M/L size like they do in road bikes ๐Ÿ™ ) Apart from the size, it's the best 29er hardtail I've ridden - completely & utterly blows away the 'boutique brand' stuff that I've tried.

Yep. Borrowed herself's Comp1 29er yesterday. Startling turn of speed. Needs lighter wheels though.
