[#3288194]

Been riding a 2011 x2
Really enjoying it so far ( borrowed whilst a mates offshore )

Reckon it'd ride better with a 140 fork

Who's got one ? What bits have you changed / added and how has it held up
So far ??

Reckon it seems a good compromise as a one bike -do-it-all

Thoughts ?

Its a scientific fact that all frames ride better with longer forks.

My trance x2 is stock other than grips and an Alfine. My lungs and skill are the weak link, not the bike.

How's the weight balance with the hub ? Do you
Notice it much ??

lungs and legs should cope for a few years yet

I only notice the weight when lifting it into the back of the car.

The only think i have an issue with is the rapid rise style shifter, the weight isnt an issue at all, i'm still popping it off rocks and roots just like i used without any bother.

The chain growth on a trance when using 32:18 is just over 1 link which is a bit of a bugger as it means even on its shortest you still have quite a bit of chain flapping about when the frame is uncompressed. I'm running a susperstar sprung tensioner and that seems to be doing the job fine. I've also added an old jockey wheel attached to an old rear light bracket part way down the chainstay to stop the chain flapping, its never dismounted without it, its just to keep it quieter.

The only issue to be wary off is that when i did the singlespeed world champs on it, using a 17 tooth or 20 too sprocket it kept slipping, I ended up running the chain really short and sticking loads of air in the shock so i never bottomed out but on the 32:18 its perfect and thats about the same as a 1x9 setup anyway. So i guess that if you are thinking of running any other gearing ratio you may have to experiment with tensioners and sprockets but they are super cheap.

Oh I also have one of those carbon down tube protectors, its got a few dings and scrapes in it already so its probably 12 quid well spent

I've changed most parts on my trance x. Last change was to put rock show revelation team u turn 120-150mm forks on. I went with u turns as I could put the travel anywhere between as I was scared I may ruin the geometry. As it happens bike is best at 150mm. I took 20mm of spacers out to lower the bars.

It's perfect now, 120mm gives a lovely low front for steep climbs, feels sweet at 135mm on trails and 150mm on descents has transformed my descending speed. Sometimes I run 150mm on flats and climbs and it still feels great. Much more fun and willing to take off on bumps and jumps.

Podge my mates bike has the tube protector too
Nice bit of work

Winrya hadn't thought of 150 but after a reccomend
LIke that I'd give it a go

So looks like trance & Alfine on 140-150 forks then
Kind of a trance on steroids lol

Done exactly the same as win. Except with a sektor fork. You need to get the bars as low as and fiddle with the suspension setup to rebalance the bike. Effectively you get a lightweight reign am bike.

Running Pikes on my 2009 Trance X2, it rocks. As B-L says, get your bars as low as they'll go and you'll feel a big difference in the handling.

I have the 09 Trance X and Pikes made a big difference. I had to have the stem low anyway to fit the steerer. Another top upgrade was fitting an Enduro needle bearing to the top of the shock to increase plushness. The bushings I got with the original own brand shock were crap and soon wore and got sticky. It's been a great all round bike for me but I've not been riding it much recently mainly due to a problem with the dropouts (which I just made a post about coincidentally). I also got the downtube protector off some bloke on ebay after denting it a bit on a rock.

Stick some 140's on and when hes back swap them back over.

If you really like the TRance look at sourcing one as well.
