Hi,
Currently have a 08 Wolf Ridge with a few upgrades, weighs in about 32lb.
It's not too bad on the climbs but I've taken a fancy for a clearance 09 Reign X.
Trouble is I can't test ride one before I buy so input on how well it goes up hill would be great.
Thanks, Phil
The Reign I had was great at going up hills. Not fast, but you could sit and spin over everything as traction was amazing. I was (sadly) overbiked, but had a hoot when I owned it.

Cheers Kit, I've been thinking of making the move to a Reign for a while now! I've been overbiked for years, so my mates tell me. Trouble is, my usual riding spot is getting rougher, so bigger is still best for now

my 2007 reign was quite a good all round bike, i upgraded it with some zocchi forks for a slightly heavier build, used to use it for downhill fairly regularly, it wasnt quite so quick over ground as its original build but wasnt bad!
Definitely a sit and spin (plod) climber. If your mates have all got 5" trail bikes (comparable fitness) youre going to struggle to keep up on long climbs/traverses. Brilliant descender though.
Thanks for the input guys. My riding consists of more across and up than down, but the downs tend to be very rough!
The Reign looks like a winner. Now to convince the wife...

I love my Wolf Ridge, but there are times when I've wished I was riding a Trance. Nice all round bike, lightweight and plenty stuff.
I've not had a play on a Reign, but the Trance had an awful lot going for it, especially the X version.
the reign X is almost as fast uphill as the trance X. guy that comes out riding with us rides his almost as fast as his carbon hardtail!
The '09 Reigns (not X) will be substantially lighter, and may be available on clearance too still.
A friend has the X and it seems to pedal really well for an almost 7in bike - but the normal Reign is probably a bit more versatile in terms of XC riding.
One of my mates just got himself a Trance X, he loves it having been on a Kona hardtail for the last 6 years. I'd looked at the Trance X as an option but I've always gone for the heavier duty option! I think I'll just have put more effort in on the hills...
