Does /has anyone done a comparison between a M and ML size Defy? I’m 5’11.5 so half-an-inch between the two sizes. I do have a 2013 ML Defy but I’m older now with neck and lower back aches and pains so am wondering how much difference the smaller bike will make? Bike is for general riding an club runs.

Numbers wise, the reach seems only 4mm less on the M and the TT 15mm less so not huge numbers, yet the seat tube length is a more worrying 35mm smaller difference. Can anyone tell me what the numbers will “feel” like in the real world? Thanks

I am a shade under 5'10'', long torso, short legs. I have had a few Defy's and had a proper bike fit, which put me on a M, but the stem was changed from 100 to 110

Even with the current supply chain issues I'd imagine the Defy would be available in a lot of shops for you to sit on. M and M/L are probably the most popular sizes for one of their best sellers.

I am a similar height to you and ride a medium defy, with a 120mm stem, but I have relatively short legs and a long body. I found the ML to have much too high a stack for me, but I know people slightly shorter than me, but with longer legs, who find the ML to be perfect. It is worth getting to sit on both sizes.

M to ML increases reach by 4mm and stack by 19mm, so your lowest possible stem position will make you more upright.

The 480mm vs 515mm seat tube will only be an issue if you can't insert the minimum amount of the supplied post into the frame, more exposed post will increase flex and improve comfort. With ~32" cycling inseam I usually have 71-72cm BB to saddle top, so 480mm tube with a 350mm post would be fine for me.

Great thanks all that helps. so the ML Defy has a 16mm shorter reach and a 30mm higher stack (all in the head tube) than my current bike, with its seat tube .5 degree slacker, with a 20mm longer chain stay & wheelbase. Having said that, my current bike has a 110mm stem vs the Defy's 100mm.

That sounds to me I'd already be more upright than my current bike on the ML with a little more stability but there's little in it.

So I have a Large Defy from around 2019 I think and I’m 6ft 2. I tend to have long legs and a shorter torso and my seatpost is HIGH! so I think I should be in an XL really! Hopefully this helps someone when trying to choose a size

5'11 and a wee bit here and have a M/L Defy. Fits really well and definitely wouldn't want to be on an M. I had a sit on the M, M/L and a L before I decided as have been between sizes before. Large felt better than Medium as a comparison, I'm just not quite flexible enough for the slightly more stretched out position.

5'10 and M. At your height, I'd expect a M/L.

Any Giant dealers offer a proper bike fitting service to iron out the other issues? Would be cheaper than getting it wrong
