Yesterday towards the end of my ride over Cannock, I experienced the strange phenomenon of what I can only describe as a "ghost" puncture.
The rear wheel suddenly felt all squashy and vague, just like it'd flatted and I even looked for a place to get clear of the trail and got off to fix it. Gave the tyre a squeeze and it was fully inflated! I climbed back on and got on with the ride. Weird!
I've had it happen before occasionaly, on other bikes and with various combinations of wheels and tyres. The bearings have no play and the wheel's laced tight and tight in the frame.
Just one of those things I guess! Spooky...
i have had the same feeling in the rear end stopped to check and no puncture. i just put it down to myself. when i was younger i had a moped and after a bit of being onit that also felt the rear end was loose ide stop to check and no problems. so yepjust one of those things
Glad I'm not alone then! ๐
When I swapped rear tyre brands from Michelin to Maxxis on the downhill bike I spent at least the next 3 days checking for phantom punctures. It is indeed a spooky feeling.
Just ridden over a slightly softer surface by any chance?
I've had that, it was the spokes pulling through the rim ๐
Sobriety +1 when this happened to me found 3 spokes slack.
Just ridden over a slightly softer surface by any chance?
LOL! ๐
There may be something in that, but I'd ridden a whole host of trail surfaces, from mud, grass, soft soil to rock and loose stones over the course of the ride.
As always GW is right. I know several places over the chase where it feels like a puncture just cuz of the surface. Lumpy grass & voids under the gravel innit m8.
I thought this was going to be a thread about those mystery punctures that happen for no reason, like the time I was standing in my kitchen eating a bowl of cereal looking out of the window when all of a sudden the rear tyre on my bike let off an almighty bang and made me spill my cereal all down my front.
bike hadn't been ridden since the day before, nobody and nothing near it at the time, could only have been ghosts....

You should attach a camera to the back like that film Paranormal Activity. Catch the ghost in the act.
Ive had one of these before too.....and I would have gotten away with it if it wasnt for those pesky kids.
i thought i had a puncture the other day. i slowed down and stopped as i could hear a hissing noise, as if the air was escaping.
turned out to be the whirrrr of the mavic hub.
Only time I had this it turned out all of the spokes on my rear wheel were really loose and the whole rim was wobbling.
