I've cut the excess tube off and the tyre's holding pressure, but I need to deflate and add sealant. If I take the tyre off the rim, won't getting it back on again be a nightmare, trying to keep the rimstrip in place? I mean, it slightly overlaps the rim as it is, so levering a tyre on will surely displace it or worse, tear it. Is it a case of just doing it carefully every time?

Can't you put the sealant in though the valve?
You are using a Presta with removable core or a Schrader aren't you?

Just using basic schrader BMX tubes. So, every time you change a tyre, you have to cut and fit a new strip?

no, it'll go back OK with care

as for the fluid - just take the valve core out & fill it through that

Use lots of soapy water to help the tube slide back on also place a small cable tie around the valve. The tie will stop the valve sliding down as you work on and inflate the tyre.

basic schrader BMX tubes - odds on do have the core inside that can be removed. JRA sell one for £5 and ones that screw as wheel caps. A bit after the horse has bolted but you should add the sealant through valve, inflate and then cut off excess.
