Hello

In my eagerness to get a Full Suspension Frame, I ended up with a rather tatty Kona Kikapu.

Now the thing is, I really like it, It feels really nice on road and trail. I've not ridden many other bikes, but mine does feel nice compared to others so Ive decided to keep it and tart it up a bit 🙂

Any tips on powdercoating, what to watch out for or ask for?

Many thanks

Steve

See some of their work as I've had a motorbike frame done and it came back matt finish when I wanted gloss. Also make sure they fit bungs to all open tube sections.

Get a recommendation if you can or atleast find someone who has done plenty of bikes in the past. When I had a frame done I talked them through the various bits I wanted masking/protecting. They'd thought of most but missed a couple (like the rack mounts as it's an inbred).

Best to find a powder coaters who do bike frames as a regular part of their activities. Such as Armourtex, who know how to mask up threads, how to strip alu and steel frames carefully, and are used by loads of other bikers.

Where are you? If it's in the south try south coast blasting in Newhaven £20 to clean and £20 to coat on a hardtail.

I had an orange frame powder coated a few years ago, can't remember who did it or how much ( place that had done car wheels and stuff for us before) but it looked gorgeous! So it is well worth it if you like the frame 🙂

I have photos but have no idea how to load them 🙁

Thanks for the replies!

tk46hal - Ponte is not that far from me, if its someone that you can recommend Ill check them out.

The place Ive looked at has said that hes in the process of doing some other frames and seemed knowledgeable about Full suspension frames etc, he was either a really good blagger on the phone or he genuinley has some experience in bikes.
