[#2524779]

seen some cheap xtr race brakes, that really quite interested in....however in the listing the lever for the front brake is on the left and vice versa for the rear, is there a way of combatting this problem?

sooooo bloody cheap, 250quid delivered, but the wrong way around, or are they flip flop design the new xtr brakes?

Not difficult to unscrew the hoses and swap them over, or just cross your arms.

Yep. It is that simple. You'll probably not even have to bleed them either. ๐Ÿ™‚

you may need to fit a new olive too.

and if you're not careful a bleed may be required.

it's only like shortening the hoses a bit, really.

If your clumsy you may need to bleed them, but iirc the instructions with shimano brakes say you can shorten the hoses without bleeding, I would always bleed them anyway its a quite simple job and worth knowing how to do.

ps don't buy the shimano bleed kit, its stupid and a complete waste of money.

if thats all it is then these are a bargainnnn!

Just reed the instructions that come with them for shortening the hoses, but without actually shortening them. I am not 100% sure but I think shimano brakes come with spare olives.

Yes new ones should come with spare olives, inserts & bleed blocks. I recently had to bleed a rear after shortening the hoses, but got away without a bleed on the front.

gotcha guys cheers! think i may just plunge and get them then ๐Ÿ™‚

rear hose will need shortening anyways, and no doubt the front....so ill cut down to size and swap over at the lever end, guessing thats the easiest way to do it ๐Ÿ™‚

DON'T undo them at the calipers. Do it this way and you won't have to bleed them:

Leave wheels in place
Remove brake pads
Pump out the pistons until they virtually touch the rotors
Undo hoses from lever end
Open master cylinder
Reconnect hoses on to the right levers
Carefully lever the pistons back into the calipers (make sure they stay straight)
Top up with fluid if necessary (probably won't be)
Refit master cylinder cap
Refit brake pads
Ride your bike

It takes 5 mins max

Just did some SLXs on Tuesday (shortening the hoses). I just took the hoses out at the brake lever, cut the hose to length, inserted the new olive and pin thingy and reattached. They worked fine straight off, though the levers pulled back a little far, but nothing that 24 hours with the levers cable tied to the grips didn't sort out ๐Ÿ˜‰

Not really a problem - and as said above everything is included in the box to do the deed.
