Any Genesis Day One owners out there who use full length mudguards ? I've noticed that the rear guard will have to be 'technically adjusted' due to the fixing hole in the frame being vertical rather than horizontal. What are you using and how have you bodged them. Many thanks.

Hiya,

I can't offer any help but I was wondering if you made a decision on this? Just picked up a Genesis Day One myself and even though we've had nice weather this weekend I think it would be wise to get a set of guards on it.

Have seen a guy in Edinburgh with full length guards, not sure how he's done it though. I've got the Zefal Swann Cruiser which is technically just a clip on but is really long and seems better than any clip on I've used before.

I use sks thermoplastics. Just removed the bracket clip thing and drilled a hole in the appropriate place in the mud guard then screwed a bolt into the thread on the frame. Think I may have used a small washer too.

I'm that guy in Edinburgh with full-length guards! They're a set of sks ones, can't remember the exact model though. I had a couple of issues getting them fitted... To fit the back guard I bent a curve in the metal clip on top of the guard and put a couple of cable ties round it to keen it in place. Full length guard on the back is good, but horizontal drop-out make it a nightmare when you get a puncture!

On the front, I found the guard hit my foot when trackstanding, had to modify it so the guard sits closer to the tyre and it no longer hits my foot.

Apart from the awkward guard fitting, it's the perfect commuting bike and I can't recommended it enough.

Sounds like you've got the same frame fittings as i have on Vapour, i used a set of these,

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=25794

They used to do thinner 28mm ones which is what i use for commuting, as mentioned do away with the supplied bracket and just drill a hole through the plastic for the seatstay bridge.

13thfloormonk - did you not realise that I had full length mudguards on my bike?

Shaun-Rob - that sounds like a hell of a lot of hassle.

Sorry SBZ, I didn't notice them for the huge cloud of dust hanging in the air behind you! ๐Ÿ˜€

(My first dust joke! I thank you.)
