My battle-worn Stumpjumper needs a shock bush (so much so that I'm on the verge of wearing out the shock eye), so on Saturday I spent the day on one of our hire fleet, a 2010 Genesis Core 20. Just wanted to say that its a jolly nice ride, despite the modest price. Very neutral handling, easy to ride, comfortable… everything you'd want really. I guess if I had one full time I'd want a better fork (bit bouncy and underdamped) but nothing else needs changing at all, and even the fork is perfectly liveable-with.
I really am coming round these days to the idea that cheaper bikes are good enough, and definitely just as much fun.
Mate of mine has just bought a Genesis Alpitude for thrashing around the Surrey Hills and absolutely loves it - gets a more regular outing than his DW 5-Spot at the moment!
A change is as good as a rest.
